Last week's brutal murders have caused some retailers to think twice about staying in Asphyxiation Point -- this from a raven-haired employee of one of the uptown shops. Duo Savings and Loan robberies early in the week, just two doors down from The Secret Stash, may have convinced the store owner to vacate for his own safety.
A pair of new 7th street businesses have yet to open their doors. Coming Soon signs remain in windows. But businesses come and go regularly in our quaint town; some flourish in a tourism setting and others find it difficult during the best and safest of times. When asked their opinion about crime's affect on retailing, one prominent shop owner who chooses to remain anonymous gave this statement:
"I had no idea actually about retailers leaving, As there is a Boutique and a new Salon opening up soon. It seems where one store closes another 2 are ready to pop up in its place. But I will say about the current state of crime, It's very scary being a woman in this town. But I'm sure its equally challenging to be part of law enforcement here. I'm fortunate enough to know a few folks at the PD personally and I truly feel they are handling it as best as they can, trying to make the town safe for us. Still I take my own precautions, try not to be outside alone for too long, and I think we all need to do this sort of smart planning if we're going to live around these circumstances."
