[LIFE] Walking Tall in AP - APPD Chief DeSanta

9/11/2015

We walk the streets of this island and don't always think about our safety. When we do think about the crime in Asphyxiation Point many point their fingers at the APPD and call foul. Rarely do we stop to think about what goes on behind the scenes with the staff and officers who risk their lives to protect ours. The AP Times is going to take a closer look at these men and women to bring you a better idea of the hard work and dedication of these people and the department as a whole. This will be the first of several articles spotlighting the Asphyxiation Point Police Department, starting at the top with a profile of Chief Warwick DeSanta.

DeSanta is a decorated veteran police officer, having received the Medal of Valor for his actions in the line of duty .Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana he joined the police academy at the age of nineteen and started his professional career as a patrol officer for the New Orleans Police Department. After paying his dues on the mean streets, he began to work his way up through the ranks. He served in several units, including narcotics and with the Louisiana State Police homicide division. From Louisiana DeSanta continued his career in Washington State on their state police force which is where he proved instrumental in solving a major murder, exposing department wide corruption and earned himself the position of Chief for the first time. It was about a year later that he found himself here in AP and commanding his second police force.

More than his impressive career in law enforcement, Warwick DeSanta is an educated and genuine human being, holding a Bachelors degree in Criminology.. If you have ever had any type of interaction with him you have undoubtedly noticed his stoic demeanor. He truly is a man of action and not words. He is also a humble man who enjoys simple pleasures.

"Relax? I ain't sure what that word means." he told the Times, "I got a motorcycle. I enjoy riding it through the countryside, working on it." DeSanta would add. "Sometimes I paint, but don't got a lot of time for that really."

He had dedicated his life to law enforcement and it shows in the way he interacts with his officers and staff.

"I try to run a pretty tight ship. I find my style of command ain't so hands off as a lot of chiefs. I prefer the streets to the fancy offices so I'm out with the officers a lot, taking 911 calls. So I guess I like to be close my officers." DeSanta told the Times. "Its up to me to inspire my officers to be good Police."

Warwick DeSanta is a complicated and often misunderstood man that holds one of the most stressful and important jobs in society and on this island. His dedication and passion for his chosen profession are undeniable. He is a man with whom the community at large can trust, and criminals should fear. All in all Asphyxiation Point is lucky that we have such a dedicated man looking over us. He's also a man with a sense of humor.

"Contrary to what folks might think. I do actually care about people's safety, an for the well being of the people under our protection. Maybe I am a miserable (expletive), but who wouldn't be when they see the things I've seen and have to deal with day in and day out. But I care." DeSanta told the AP Times. He added "Oh, and I actually don't eat donuts. Thats a fact."
