Dec. 26, 2015 After taking a beating by the Spring hurricane and screaming Winter storms, the AP District Courthouse, located at 7th St. and Eagle Ridge Rd., is blockaded by fencing as workers bring in cranes and shovels to repair and renovate it.
According to project manager Sachet Engineer, the basement will be expanded for trial court rooms. Says Mr. Engineer, "My crew was brought in for repair but it appears the town council is interested in an expansion as well. Reopening the old basement for trials and the like given the growing population of this island and all that... you should have an airier, nicer court house by the time my crew and I are done."
With work crews in short supply, Mr. Engineer noted his concern about meeting the town council's deadline., "I would need an additional work crew if we were going to get this done within the allocated time frame," he moaned.
The good news is that Asphyxiation Point will have room for jurors, witnesses, court staff, judge, and a good sized gallery now, which may help bring the caseload of crimes in AP to a reasonable level.
