Last evening, APPD responded to a call from Climax owner Makenzie Jay about a gunshot victim. The victim was identified by the police as Zach Cross, a relatively new citizen to town. Zach Cross was shot twice in the thigh and once in the flank. He was being attended to by Jay. She had reported the 911 call and was giving basic first aid to Cross before the EMT arrived. Cross reported that he had a meeting with a tall, dark, Russian accented man yesterday who was wearing gold chains and today he was to purchase some drugs from him but ended up being shot. From the physical description of the suspect shooter, the PD have a potential suspect but are still following a number of leads and such AP Times will not be releasing the name at this time.
Jay was able to provide footage from cameras to the PD but she has reported to the press these cameras do not cover the back of her club where the shooting allegedly took place. Due to this incident Jay is considering changing the security procedures and system at Climax but no decision has been made at this time. Jay also commented there were other women around Climax that could have seen the shooting but she was too busy attending to the victim to get names of the witnesses.
Cross was transported to APH for treated for the two gunshot wounds and has been recovering there should be released fairly quickly. AP Times did speak directly with Cross, he claimed he received a text message requesting the meeting behind the club for the purchase of illegal drugs by the man he believed was the person he met in the diner days prior. When approached he said the man spoke very little to him before pulling a weapon and shooting him.
He described the suspect as tall well-built man. He guessed his weight to be at least 250 pounds. He stated the man had a wide build and was over 6 feet tall. He said the man was of darker complexion but was under a ski mask with only his eyes exposed. He claimed the man had gold chains around his neck and had something protruding from his ankle sticking from his jeans but could not be sure exactly what it was. The man spoke with what Cross believes was a Russian accent muffled by the ski mask and also said a phrase that was translated by the paper to be “F- you” in Russian before pulling the trigger. Any and all leads regarding this crime should be reported to the APPD.
