I have been one of your most loyal followers ever since I arrived in town oh so many months ago. The Asphyxiation Point Times has allowed me to keep a pulse on this town and its residents and I must thank you for the same. However, I have noticed a recent trend that I find particularly concerning.
I do understand that the "Life" column of the paper is more of a gossip column than anything. But the gossip section of the paper had always been balanced at the very least covering both good and bad. Unfortunately, the tone in the recent articles in the life section however, seems to have changed somewhat.
I run a prominent business in the upper part of town, and I would like to reassure the residents of Asphyxiation Point that it is very much business as usual. While it is true that the Secret Stash has shut down, a conversation with its former owner might just reveal he has decided to concentrate his efforts elsewhere in town. Sadly I cannot consider myself a close friend or associate of Mr. Jefferson and so cannot comment on his real reasons but isn't that what journalism is all about? Getting to the bottom of it all?
As for the recent spate of crimes around town, yes it is higher now than I have ever seen it. But you also have to realize it is the peak of the tourist season. The island is bursting at its seams and most business owners are profiting from the hundreds of people the summer has brought with it. It would be foolish to assume that the more criminal elements would not try to capitalize on the same and trickle in with the partying crowd.
Which brings me to the last point : The local PD. With the number of people who move in and out of town, keeping the peace and enforcing the law is no easy feat. Criminals can be here one day and gone the next. Yet the AP PD somehow manages to stay on top of it all. Granted some cases take more time than others... Last week's news about so many deaths (including one of AP's finest) is saddening indeed. But the AP PD did manage to nab the perpetrator at the end of the day. I believe the city's heroes deserve a round of applause even if their actions and motivations of some of their members have been called into question lately.
Please note that I am by no means saying NOT to report the bad. I think I speak for all business owners when I say we depend on the Times to be there on the scene whenever something goes down so that we may be forewarned. But along with speculation on what is wrong with the town, I would like to see more coverage on what is right too. I greatly enjoyed the business spotlights you have run in the past. I also wouldn't mind reading some articles on the booming tourist trade. There was a time when I recognized every person who walked into the Aristocrat. Now I barely recognize anyone. Yet coverage both factual or gossip regarding the same has been sadly missing.

The Aristocrat
Response from the editor : As you have already remarked Dr. Kuluk, the life section is more of an opinion column which a large number of our readers enjoy reading. However, the Times does appreciate your feedback and will attempt to publish more business and tourist spotlights as we have done in the past.
